Beaver Island Welcome Packages

I have to say that I am getting more and more excited about this trip.  Last week in the mail, I received my Beaver Island welcome package from Cameron over at TFM.  Man not only does that guy put together an awesome trip but he also put together a totally amazing welcome package.  Here is what came in my welcome package:

I have to say that I was honestly blown away by what this welcome package contained.  A hat, new sun mask (which saves me having to buy a second), fly line, tippet, flies....oh my.  Well done Cameron, well done.  Now I hope I don't choke during the trip!

Popper Porn

I just prepped 225 size 8 hooks and 75 size 10 hooks so I thought I would share with you all my to do list.  This is what I am moving on to:

New Popper

Here is a teaser shot of a limited edition popper we will be doing shortly.  We will only be making 100 of these Comrade Poppers.  Once they are gone, they are gone.  I really like this popper.  We have been wanting to do a red one for some time so when Cameron from The Fiberglass Manifesto suggested doing a Comrade Popper we jumped at it.  Melissa and Cameron came up with the color scheme.  As always, I was the muscle!  When it becomes available for purchase, I will let everyone know.  Here it is:

First 'Gill for the YOTB!

Seems like forever ago since my last blog post.  I have a ton of posts I would like to do but never seem to get around to them.  When I am not trying to fill orders, I am sharing photos on the Facebook page as well as on Instagram.  I need to be better with the blog.  It is after all where it all started so to speak.

I managed to sneak out yesterday for a little bit during my lunch hour.  I was at work and near pond X.  As some might recall, this pond has been good to me in the past.  It isn't fished much but it can be difficult to fish.  It has a lot of trees and brush along the shoreline thus making it difficult to cast in many places.  Wading is not an option for a number of reasons.  I decided to hit the pond yesterday since I was going to be in the area.  It was right at 60 degrees here in Maryland yesterday but windy.  The area where the pond is located got a ton of rain the night before thus making the water murky at best.  That coupled with the nights still getting down into the 30s, made the fishing slow.  Actually slow might have been a gross understatement.  I managed to land 12 'gills in two hours of fishing.  I did lose a few but for the most part I landed everything I hooked.  The first ten were landed on a chartreuse Road Kill.  The last two were caught using a chartreuse Persuader just for shits and grins.  I figured why not try and land not only the first 'gill but the first 'gill on top as well.  All in all it was a great trip and I was happy to get out.

Got Some More Swag from TFM

Recently Cameron was having a sale over at TFM on apparel.  Who doesn't need more TFM shirts??  Probably this guy but I was able to convince Melissa to spend a little more money and order two shirts.  I got another bluegill shirt, shocker, in burnt orange and the comrade shirt in red.  I can't wait to start reppin' some TFM while swinging some glass.

Volunteers Needed

Hi all, I've been super busy lately (orders!! orders!! orders!!) but wanted to take a minute to share the info below.  Please consider volunteering for one or both days if you live in the area.  It's a great event!

I have two blog posts in the works, one about a Beaver Creek outing (fishing success!!) and one about the Fly Fishing Film Tour the wife and I attended.


More importantly, however:

City Catch is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2013. As always, we need volunteers to make this annual event a success.  
 
MD TU will need volunteers on two days. On Friday, April 12th, we will stock 800 Rainbows in Dead Run, a pretty stream in Leakin Park. Stocking, which is always fun and interesting, will take place in the morning at a time to be announced. 
          
City Catch itself will take place on Saturday, April 13th. We need anglers (no experience necessary) to serve as guides to teach the kids the fun of fishing and the value of conservation. 
 
On the 13th, we ask volunteers to arrive by 8:00 a.m. for a brief orientation. At 9:00 a.m., 90 kids will arrive for a half day of fishing followed by a hotdog lunch at noon. MDTU will provide each child with a spinning rod and tackle that they can take home. Our aim is to have one guide for every two kids.
  

City Catch is fun and rewarding. The volunteers enjoy themselves as much as the kids. City Catch is, however, volunteer intensive, and we need your help. You can volunteer for the 12th, the 13th, or both. Our greatest need is on the 13th when the kids arrive.
